Purpose

Christ said, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there shall I also be." The purpose of the Bearden Young Singles is to provide a place for college students, young adults, and those who are young at heart to gather together for Christian fellowship, support, and encouragement. We are here to encourage one another in the daily triumphs and struggles of life as we work together on our journey to Christ's kingdom in this world and beyond.

Goals

1. Remind away college students that they are still a part of the Bearden UMC church family. To provide a church "home away from home" for those college students at local campuses and/or young adults. This will be done by:

A. Providing the churches weekly letter, tape ministry as requested, The Upper Room, and occasional goodies from home for students who are away or at school.
B. Provide a twice yearly newsletter of the activities of the college and careers Sunday School class and young singles activities for those members here at Bearden and those who are away.
C. Maintain/update the Bearden Young Singles Web Page.

2. Increase awareness of our activities to members of Bearden United Methodist Church through the use of bulletin board, newsletter articles, graduation announcements, the web page, and inserts in the bulletin on a regular basis.

3. Continue to provide weekly opportunities for college students and other young single adults to gather for food and fellowship. Increase awareness of these gatherings through regular bulletin announcements and setting and following a schedule.

4. Provide a chance for weekly Bible study outside of the regular Sunday School class time. One such study is to be done on-line each week so that away students who want to participate can do so.

5. A return trip to Celebration, an annual retreat for young adults.

6. Find and participate in a service project for the church/community.

7. Continue to provide a Sunday School class for young adults. Encourage the growth of this class by our prayers, presence, and service. Encourage not only membership growth in this class but also spiritual growth among members by strengthening our relationships with each other and God.

8. Encourage high school students to consider Holston Conference colleges and other United Methodist colleges as they plan their futures.

9. Encourage participation with the Wesley Foundation on each college campus. Build our relationship with the UTK Wesley Foundation by having activities, fellowship, etc. together. Provide students who are away from home at UTK a church home should Wesley Foundation not be open due to UTK schedule, etc.

10. Keep students informed of scholarships, loans, and grants for which they qualify.

11. Observe Student Recognition Day.
