The Infantilist's Declaration of Independence From Ignorance

About the
SO Support Forum

This forum is for those Significant Others of Infantilists who would like to reasonably discuss how they might best work to relate to the infantilism of their spouses or significant others, in a rational and balanced way.  For those SO's of infantilists who might prefer to try to fully indulge all of the infantilistic fantasies of their infantilist partners without any restraint or reserve, there is no shortage of other sites on the Internet for such activities.  To the best of our knowledge, this Forum is the only Forum on the Internet dedicated primarily and explicitly to providing a supportive environment where the SO's of infantilists can meet one another and support one another in attempting to work out the best ways to either incorporate, (or to reject) the presence of infantilism in their relationship.

Please be forewarned, if you might happen to believe that it is possible to 'separate the baby from the bathwater' so to speak, and to somehow 'cure' your SO of his infantilism, you may be in for a very rough ride.  To the best of our knowledge, while there are a very few out there who claim to have 'cured' themselves via sheer strength of willpower, or via God's miraculous intervention, or some such thing, we know of none who have claimed such a cure who can also claim to have cured themselves of the continual inner struggle in thier thoughts against the desire.  We wonder whether or not these rare individuals might have merely found a way to create the illusion of an external cure, while still suffering inwardly even the more greatly.

To be certain, within the mental health profession to this day there is no known scientifically proven cure for infantilism that has any success rate of any proven significance.  If you are an SO and might know of one, you are certainly welcome to annouce it on this board for further discussion.  While the rare accounts of one or two individuals may not amount to a scientifically proven method, still such accounts may point the way for potential future research to verify or disprove such possibilities.

This Forum has been established in the hopes of providing a place for the SO's of infantilists to meet and support one another in deciding what to do to best live with, (or not live with) this phenomenon.  Hopefully through the greater shared understandings that might evolve, it will help us to find a better understanding of the various types of behaviors that infantilism does or does not most often include, and how best to live with and understand these things as they might arise. By entering into such a dialogue, it is hoped that we might be able to gain a greater understanding of our Significant Others, and of our relationships to them, and therefore gain a greater respect and understanding for all involved.

For the SO's of infantilists, the SO Support Forum may be the one part of this site which you may find to be the most valuable, especially those who post in the forum.  It is our hope that through the process of the dialogues of this forum that we may be able to find the strength and support we need to best live with what may at first appear as a major problem in the life of the SO of an infantilist.

Many of us share the belief that it should be possible in most cases, through caring dialogue and through reasonable compromise, to eventaully reach some kind of a working compromise with our infantilist Significant Others.  Some of us have found that such a working compromise can be arrived at that is capable of meeting both of our needs, without imposing any undue or unrealistic demands on either of us.

Others of us have found that the strain of incorporating infantilism into our relationships has proven to be beyond the ability of our relationship to cope, respond and compromise.  We recognize that this too is an option, and that such an outcome need not be cause for self doubt or shame, but may sometimes be the best approach to take in a given situation.  We recognize that infantilism in and of itself is not the only factor to determine the success or failure of any given relationship, and that the whole picture must be looked at in any given situation to determine what course of action might be best in any given situation.

This SO Support Forum (for the Significant Others of Infantilists) was originally started by Kathi S.. Her contributions to this Forum over the course of many years are much appreciated by all.  Currently the SO Support Forum is in an unsponsored mode.  We apologize for all of the advertising.  Perhaps someday I/ we will put everything onto regular commercial sites and thus eliminate the advertising (cost $120/ yr.).  If anyone would like to contribute to this, offers would be gladly accepted.

Should you desire to communicate individually with any of the other Forum participants by email, emails can be exchanged privately between Forum participants in The Email Exchange Chatroom.
