Joshua D. Hawkins and his wife Mary E.(Clark) settled in Gorham twp,Fulton County in 1852. They had traveled a long way coming from Cattarougus County,New York by wagon along what was known as Lake Trail or Lake Shore Path. Along with their belongings they brought their young son Stephen Albert,the only child of five born in New York. They settled east of Fayette off U.S. 20 along the rich fertile lands near the Old Bean Creek.He owned 37 acres in Gorham Twp.,Fulton County,Ohio. On this land Joshua raised his family and supported them as a general farmer. His four sons all became farmers of their own farms in Fulton County.
