Excerpts from Gnostic Gospels

From now on, then, my son, return to your divine nature. Do not bring grief and trouble to the Divine which is within you.
Teachings of Sylvanus

Know who God is. Know who is the one who thinks in you. Know who is God and who is the one who thinks in you. A good man is the work of God. A man who is worthy of God, he is God among men, and he is the Son of God.
Sentence of Sextus

Jesus manifested a great zeal for divinity. He revealed to men the Great Divinity. He, Christ, who has exhalted man, not in order that he might bring God down to man, but that man might become like God.
Teachings of Sylvanus

Jesus said to his disciples "Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like.
Simon Peter said to him "You are like a righteous angel."
Matthew said to him "You are like a wise philosopher."
Thomas said to him, "Master my mouth is wholly incapable of saying who you are like."
Jesus replies to Thomas "I am not your master. Because you have drunk you have become drunk from the stream which I have measured out. He sho will dreink from my mouth will become as I AM. I myself shall become he. And the things that are hidden will be revealed to him. (Ma: the I in me that is the Son of God- shall become he)
When you come to know yourself then you will become known and you will realize that it is you that are the sons of the living Father. But if you will not know yourself you will dwell in poverty.
Gospel of Thomas

Jesus pulled out the root of the whole place while others did it only partially. As for ourselves let each one dig down into the root of evil that is within one and let one pluck it out of ones heart from the root. It will be plucked out if we recognize it but if we are ignorant of it it takes root in us and produces its fruit in our heart. It masters us, we are its slaves.
Gospel of Phillip

Book of Thomas the Contender (to Thomas- because he internalized that Christ, and reflected it- Elizabeth Clare Prophet)
Since it is said that you are my twin, and my true friend, examine yourself and understand who you are, how you live, and what will become of you. Since you are called my brother you should not be ignorant about yourself, for whoever does not know self does not know anything, but whoever knows self already has acquired knowledge about the depth of the universe.

The kingdom is inside you, and it is outside you. When you come to know yourselves then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you, you who are sons of the Living Father.
Gospel of Thomas

What you see you shall become... You saw Spirit and you became Spirit. You saw Christ and you became Christ. You saw the Father, you shall become Father.
Gospel of Phillip

"Beware that no one lead you astray saying "Lo here" or "Lo there," for the son of man is within you. Follow after him. Those who seek him will find him."
Gospel of Mary (Magdalene)

Mary Magdalene asks Jesus for permission to discourse on a teaching he has just given and Jesus replies "Mary, thou blessed one whom I will perfect in all mysteries of those of the height, discourse in openness, thou whose is raised to the kingdom of heaven more than all thy brethren."
Gospel of Mary (Magdalene)

While instructing his brethren on the mysteries, Jesus says, "all men who shall receive the mysteries of the ineffable will be fellow kings with me in my kingdom and I am they and they are I...."
Pistis Sophia

Jesus says to James "If you are afflicted and persecuted by Satan and do the Father's will I say this: the Father will love you and make you my equal and think of you as having become loved ones through the Father's forethought, by your free choice. Be superior to me. Be like the child of the Holy Spirit. Do your best to be saved without any urging. Rather spur yourself on and reach the goal before me if you can. Then the Father will love you."
The Secret Book of James

Keep the holy commandments of Jesus Christ and you will reign over every place on earth and you will be honored by the angels and the archangels. Then you will aquire them as friends and fellow servants. Do not bring grief to the Divine which is within you. He who guards himself from doing anything insolent is one who keeps his guiding principle. Although he is a man who exists on earth he makes himself like God. Let Christ alone enter your world and let him bring to naught all powers that have come upon you. Let him dwell in the temple within you and may you become for him a priest and a Levite entering in purity.
Teachings of Sylvanus

"Ten months ago I sent you another secret book that the Saviour revealed to me. Think of that book as a revelation to me, James, as for this one... The twelve disciples were all sitting together recollecting what the Saviour had said to them, secretly or openly and organizing their recollections into books. I for my part was also writing my book. Behold the Saviour appeared. He had left us and we had been watching for him. 550 days after he rose from the dead we said to him "Did you depart and leave us?" Jesus said "No, but I shall return to the place whence I came. If you wish to come with me, come." They all answered him and said "If you command us we shall come." he said "I tell you a truth, no one among you will ever enter the kingdom (at my bidding- Nag Hammadi translation) because I commanded it, but rather because you yourselves are filled.

"Leave James and Peter with me that I may fill them." After he summoned the two of them he took them aside and ordered the others to keep at their work. The Saviour said "You have been treated kindly... have not understood.

"Do you not want to be filled? Your hearts are drunk. Do you not want to be sober? For shame. From now on, while awake or asleep remember- you have seen, you have spoken with, you have listened to the Son of Man."
Secret Book of James

(an apostle) ... said unto him, "Lord, we can obey you if you wish, for we have left our fathers, our mothers, our towns and have followed you, but give us the means to avoid the temptation of the wicked devil." The Lord answered and said "What is your reward if do the Fathers will but do not receive what the Father gives to those tempted by Satan? But if you are persecuted by Satan and do the Fathers will, I say this the Father will love you and make you my equal, and think of you as having become loved ones through the Father's forethought by your free choice.
Will you not forsake the love of flesh and the Love of suffering. Do you not know? You have not yet been insulted. You have not yet been accused falsely. You have not yet been thrown into prison. You have not yet been condemned unjustly. You have not yet been crucified without reason, and you have not yet been buried in the ground as I was by the Evil One.
