In the last few days, Robbie Kaplan, a successful computer businessman, was brutally attacked in his home in Johannesburg. Robbie, asleep in bed, was tortured for two hours by a burning iron, shot four times in the vital organs, stabbed in the head 19 times, and had his face smashed in by a vase.
His life was saved by his brother, Dr David Kaplan, and his incredible will to live. He is currently in intensive care, where the physical injuries he has suffered, terrible though they might be, are nothing compared to the mental trauma he is now undergoing.
Dr David Kaplan is now spearheading a campaign to force the South African government to acknowledge that crime in this country is out of control, and to force them to do something about it. As someone who lives in this country myself, I am well aware that it could have been me, or that I could be next.
I urge you to visit the site that has been set up for Robbie, at the following address, and to e-mail your support to them, so that David has the ammunition that he needs when he meets with our President, Mr Nelson Mandela, at the end of the month.
