1. Commonly known as the American swallowtail, celeryworm, carrotworm or parsleyworm.
2. Scientifically known as Papillio Polyxenex Asterius (Ajax).
3. Can be found almost anywhere in North America, to the Hudson Bay.
4. Color: Black, with two rows of yellow spots near margin and yellow spotband on the inside; intermediate pink spots on hindwings.
5. Wing spread is 2.75 to 3 inches.
6. Larvae in early stage is brown/black, with a white “saddle”; older caterpillars are green, with black band and yellow spots on each body segment.
7. Two to four broods.
8. Hibernates as a pupa.
9. Food: Carrot family - loves parsley.
10. Sometimes it can be a pest of garden and field crops.
