Our Colorado "Ranch" - Part 1

After our trip west in May 1999, we went back to La Veta, CO to look at the La Veta Inn as a possible purchase. While we were there, our agent took us to some land about 5 miles north of town with, he said, fantastic views. Well, here's the land....and we bought it, all 60 acres...on The Inn, we passed.

Land July 1999

This was our first view of the land. It looks due south towards the twin Spanish Peaks, also known as the Huajatollas (pronounced "Wahatoyas" which is the Spanish spelling for the Indian name for the peaks) or "The Breasts of the Earth." Apt name.

Land Sept 1999

After we bought the land, we went back out Labor Day weekend to spend the day on it. Truthfully, the views are spectacular...all 360 degrees worth. But I am really partial to the twin peaks.

Our Arroyo

Bordering the eastern portion of the land is Ritter Arroyo. This is a section of it about midway back from the north end of the property.

The Spring

We hope this water is a small spring.

Panaroma of our land

This is a panoramic view of the land. The center point of this panorama looks due west. (Use the horizontal scroll bar to pan back and forth.)
