THE SWANSON FAMILY-

William SWANSON, was the son of Richard SWANSON of Wake County, North Carolina. He was married to Elizabeth Stalions on September 2, 1777. Whether he came from Virginia, we do not know. He was born about 1755/60, according to the Census and A.L. Poe, who is an authority on many family histories.
In the late 1780's they came to Wilkes County and lived many years.

William SWANSON and Elizabeth STALIONS son, Rev. William P. SWANSON was married to Milly Ward POOLE.
They later moved, between 1810 and 1820, to Burke County where Rev. William became pastor of Union Baptist Church (which was then in Burke County.) soon after its organization in June, 1814. Their family consisted of two sons, James and Richard, and a number of daughters probably about seven.
We only have the names of four: Ellenor, Lois, Frances, and Elizabeth.

JamesSWANSON, the eldest son of William and Milly P. SWANSON (b.1784,d.1861) married (1814) to Elizabeth FERGUSON, lived and died in the Beaver Creek section of Wilkes County. They had one son, Richard Calvin, and a number of daughters, three of whom were old maids and lived together at the old home place: Frances, Ellenor and Clarissa. One daughter, Mary Caroline, married Charles WALKER and lived in the Yadkin Valley section of Caldwell County. They are the ancestors of the numerous TURNMIRE family here.

He was for many years a Revolutionary War pensioner; married twice and had two sons by each wife; Isaac and John who married (1819) Mary LANGFORD.
