LEADERSHIP BOARD
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

It is the intended purpose for the leadership board of the Hernando/Nesbit support group to serve as a governing committee in which the board will promote the interests of home education in and around the area of DeSoto County, Mississippi. Its focus will be to advance the concerns of the Mississippi Home Educators Association by adhering to their authority and/or written regulations.

The board will maintain an official membership role in order to protect the integrity of the Hernando/Nesbit support group and the MHEA by ensuring that participation in any official group activity is limited to those who are members, recognizing the MHEA as being a Christian organization and having signed a Statement of Faith to attest to their fundamental Christian beliefs. Any exception to participation of non-members or prospective members can be granted by the leadership board or the support group chairman if it is determined that such participation will not subtract from the purpose of the group.

The board will govern all activities promoted as an official activity of the Hernando/Nesbit support group. The organization of any field trip, activity or extracurricular activity will be reviewed by the board or support group chairman to see that the standards of the group or MHEA are in no way being compromised.

The leadership board will have authoritative powers to do all things necessary and proper to oversee the actions of the group as a whole. The board will consist of four members of which one member will always be the support group chairman. Any official action taken by the board must be done so with agreement from no less than three of the four board members.

Membership of board members will be activated through a nomination process from which the leadership board will select the candidate who meets the qualifications of being a home schooling father who is in good standing with the support group and will confirm his concurrence with the Statement of Faith. As any slot becomes available on the board for any reason such as term limits, resignation from the board or any other reason, the opening will be communicated to the group at large by giving ample time for the nomination process to be implemented with a deadline for the process to be over. Any candidate must be willing to commit to a three year term after which he can be reinstated to the board after being reprocessed through the nomination process.
