Nova Mae Eager

One of my great grandmothers was Nova Mae Eager, who married George Oakley Moore in Scipio Twp., Allen Co., IN on 20 January 1915. Nova was the daughter of John Major Eager and Margaret C. Johnston. She died in Fort Wayne, Allen Co., IN on 16 Mar 1970 and is buried beside her husband in Scipio Twp. Cemetery, Allen Co., IN.

John Major Eager

John Major Eager was the son of Thomas Eager and Rachel Harden. John Major was born on 5 November 1866 in Delaware Co., OH. He married Margaret C. Johnston (b. 14 Feb 1868, DeKalb Co., IN, d. 23 October 1936 in Springfield Twp., Allen Co., IN), daughter of James and Hanna (Staley) Johnston on 18 Oct 1888 in Allen Co., IN. John died on 15 March 1931 in Scipio Twp., Allen Co., IN. Both are buried in Scipio Twp. Cemetery, Allen Co., IN. John and Margaret were the parents of 3 sons and two daughters:

Thomas Eager

Thomas was the son of Jacob Eager and Louisa Scott. Thomas married Rachel Harden in Delaware Co., OH on 14 December 1865.

The following death notices, reprinted here by special permission, are from Delaware County Genealogical Society's Abstracts of Obituaries, Death Notices, and Funeral Notices from Delaware Gazette, Delaware Co., Ohio, January 1907-December 1908, extracted by Marilyn M. Cryder and indexed by Jenora McKenzie Stilwell:

p. 33:
"Thomas Eager, a former resident of this city and Orange Twp., died last week and was buried Monday near Marysville, Allen Co., IN. The deceased was a member of the 4th O.V.I., Company C, under Col. Crawford who was then Captain of that company."

p. 40:
"May 3, 1907 - (Published at the request of Mrs. Lizzie Watson.) Thomas Eager was born in Hardin Co., OH, June 5 1839, and died at his late home in Scioto Twp., IN, March 23, 1907, aged 68 y 2 m 17 d. He leaves a bereaved wife, two sisters, five children, eleven grandchildren. He was one of a family of nine children - 4 sons and 5 daughters. Six of these preceded him to the great beyond. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Ida Schesler, of Monon, IN; and Mrs. Matilda Williams, of Lake Cecott, IN. Mr. Eager served a period of 3 yr in Co. C, 4th O.V.I. during the Civil War. He received an honorable discharge at Columbus in 1864. The year following he was united in marriage with Miss Rachel Harden. To this union were born six children, 5 sons and one daughter, one son, Webster B. having preceded his father to the better world. Those who survive him are: John Major, George Alden, Lester Harley, Grover Elmer, and Mrs. Amy May Foote. Mr. & Mrs. Eager resided in Ohio until the year 1886, when they moved with their family to Indiana, where they have since resided."
