Census Transcription Project

The Somerset County Historical Society has asked me if I would be willing to transcribe and compile the 1850/1860 census for this county. The output will be indexed and published by traditional method for distribution through the society bookstore. We currently need 21 transcribers (1 per township) and need financial donations to help offset the copy costs of this project. So far we have recruited 16 transcribers and have received a substantial amount in contributions. We still need help and we would love to have you join us!

Cemetery Project

In August, I began the laborious task of transcribing the LDS cemetery index for Somerset County. This microfilm contains over 108 cemeteries, family burial grounds and family plots in the county. The film was originally shot in 1957 from an original source (not documented but I believe that it was from Dr. E.C. Saylor - in the 1930's).

Once the transcription is complete I hope to publish this information and make it available to researchers in the county.
