Silent Things

Oh, lovely gentle silent things-

A butterfly with fragile wings,

Soft shadows stealing summer sun,

The tiny creek that dares to run,

A cloud within a sky of blue

And then a rainbow smiling through.

A sunrise never makes a sound,

A crocus peeks through April ground,

And as the sun would go to rest

A quiet sunset in the West,

A silent snowflake-purest white

Adds wonder to a winter night

The spider spins a lacy web

While tulips grace the flower bed,

All nature lends her quiet charms

So gently tucked in Springtime's arms,

Whatever else life ever brings

Give me the lovely silent things.

Grace of Prayer

I wonder what my life would be

Without the Grace of Prayer

To comfort me and give me strength

In heartaches and despair

For-in the bonds of every prayer

I seek and find, each day,

The kind of gentle love and care

For which all humans pray.

I would be lost without this gift-

And harmony with God-

That fills my life with joys of life

And paves the roads I trod,

For I am weak of flesh and heart

And cannot bear (alone)

The tears and fears that life impose,

But Grace of Prayer atones.

Michael Dubina

When

It seems like there should be a time,

Life slows down and stresses decline.

And yet each day is one more test

For us to strive to do our best.

So when we live in times like these,

It's hard to enjoy God's world...His trees.

The mighty roots that let us know

We have strong earth on which to grow.

Why do we run and doubt and fear?

Because it is hard to see things clear.

Oh, wonder of this time and place

The human beings try to run the race,

And run they do, without a doubt...

Not letting stress and turmoil out.

But in the test an unknown part

That some call wisdom...Some call heart.

Whichever it be, our lesson lies

To just sit calm and open our eyes.

It takes sometime for us to know.

With faith comes peace...we,too, can grow.

Edna Louise Gilbert

When In Need of a Friend

When in need of a friend

look around you,

You need never be alone.

Many truehearts

will surround you,

Grown from the seeds

you have sown.

For every small deed

has its blossom

That feeds on a smile or a word,

or a handclasp that says

"I am with you,"

A message unspoken but heard.

God Can Move Your Mountain

When things seem so impossible

And life's so hard to bear,

God can move your mountain

Before you reach despair.

He'll never leave you or forsake you

Trust Him all the way.

Be anxious, then, for nothing

And never cease to pray.

So keep on climbing higher,

Be patient while you wait.

For God is never early

And also never late.

Helen Parker

The God of my rock;in Him will I trust:He is my sheild and the horn of my salvation...2 Sam. 22:3

Love Is Never Silent

A loving heart, a gentle smile,

a warm and tender touch,

We give so many things in life

but nothing means as much.

A little inspiration

when someone loses hope,

A kind word od encouragement

when they no longer seem to cope.

A simple phrase, "I love you"

when no one else is there,

Taking hold onto a hand

in a little heartfelt prayer.

"Love is Never Silent,"

It has so much to say,

And it is our greatest blessing

when we give it all away.

Natalie Hope Rallis

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop, but a good word maketh it glad. Prov. 12:25

Quietude

I find a quiettude complete

Among the country hills,

Sometimes beside the tranquil sea

The fields where sunshine spills,

Atop a mountain vast and high,

Within the valley low,

As sunset lights the evening sky

Or in the dawning's glow.

I marvel at the quietude

The magic of it all,

In gentle showers of the Spring,

The colored leaves of Fall,

To dream beneath a sky of blue

When Summer days are here,

And then to watch the gentle dark

Before the stars appear.

All nature lends a gentle calm

To thrill a dreaming mind,

A peacefulness is then my own

With worries left behind,

The restless sea - the climbing hills

The lovely windswept wood,

I find the miracles of life

In hours of Quietude.

Garnett Ann Schultz

...that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Tim. 2:2

Morning Thoughts

Awaken slowly from the night

And greet a brand-new day

That never has been seen before,

And soon will fade away.

Awaken now, and watch the sun

Ascend up to its throne

Where the clouds are crimson curtains

Surrounding the unknown.

Awaken to the melody

Of songbirds taking flight,

Their joyful voices braking

The silence of the night.

Awaken now, refreshed, renewed,

And do what you must do,

And bring honor to the Master

Who gave this day to you!

Clay Harrison

...and God saw all the things that He had made, and they were very good. Gen. 1:31

Escape

We need to get away, at times -

From life's demanding ways -

And find some quiet, little nook

In which to dream or pray;

A small escape from daily trials

That temper joys of life

And burden us with little fears

That add to tars of strife.

A private place where we can be

Alone - in God's embrace -

And dream, a little; and dwell, a little,

In arms of Holy Grace;

A place to rest our heart and soul

Against what is to be

When we return -to what we left -

And what we can't foresee.

Michael Dubina

And He said to them, come apart into a desert place, and rest a little...Mark 6:31

The Sunrise

In the beauty of the morning

When the sun awakes the world,

When the birds begin their singing

And the clouds are all unfurled,

Have you ever stopped to listen

As the darkness fades away,

When the golden dawn is breaking

And heralds in the day?

If you've never seen the glory

Of the rising of the sun,

Now's the time to do this

For at least, just even one.

Your heart will swell with praises

As you see the beauty there,

You will find your spirit soaring

And your heart bowed down in prayer.

Louise Lee Winchip

This We Know

We know God makes the sun to shine

And makes each flower grow.

He cares for every tree and vine

And all the stars that glow.

We know God makes the sky so blue

And makes the raindrops fall.

He counted every grain of sand.

The Lord, God made it all.

His wondrous works are everywhere.

His blessings always flow.

And He keeps us in His care.

God loves us...this we know.

The Voice Within

Life sometimes gets so weary

With battles to be won,

That's why God the Father

Gave us His only Son.

There is a road to travel

And we are heaven-bound,

Through all the pain and sorrow

A secret to be found.

It is in seeking we discover

Someone Who'll gladly share

All burdens that we carry,

All sorrow we must bear.

He is the Lord upon the cross

Who died for love of all.

A voice within you beckons you

To answer to His call.

He Leadeth Me

He leadeth me across the years,

I watch each one depart,

Filled with a gladness when I see

His footprints on my heart.

I place my hand within His own,

And feel that I have wings,

He's given me the rainbow,

And now a soul that sings.

He leadeth me down every path,

And I am not afraid,

He loves me, even knowing

The mistakes that I have made.

He teaches me what pure delight

We find the more we give,

And that to be unselfish,

Is the only way to live.

He leadeth me from dawn to dusk,

As seasons come and go,

He is my guide to inner peace,

And everything I know.

A little shadow of Himself

is what I've come to be,

Always safe and warm because

...The dear Lord leadeth me!

Grace E. Easley

The Pilot at the Helm

Be Thou my guide on life's tempestuous sea;

The waves run high, and all seems dark to me;

Take Thou the helm, and steer me safely o'er

Life's surging sea to the celestial shore.

I did not always fear that winds or sea

Could overwhelm;

I trusted to myself through storm and wave,

And never thought of Him who came to save.

I tried to do without Thee, but in vain -

In vain the hope;

With all the perils of the 'whelming main

I could not cope;

Now from the deep I turn my eyes to Thee;

O Savior, take the helm and pilot me!

Lead me, O Lord....Make Thy way straight before me. Ps. 5:8

In Faith I Pray

Gracious Lord, merciful Lord,

As I kneel to pray -

Look on all those that I love

Tenderly, today.

Rid their hearts of weariness.

Erase their every care.

Let them know, thru faith in You

That life is sweet, and fair.

Bring to all the sorrowing

And those who are in pain,

Joy and comfort, from the heart,

Let them smile again.

I pray for all the needy

And those who are alone -

Unite them with their loved ones

One day before You throne.

The world beyond awaits us -

All who believe and pray,

And "love our neighbor as ourself"

As we go on our way.

Tomorrow's Gold

Yesterday was perfect

Today that's not quite so,

The sun has slipped behind the hill

And lost its golden glow.

I asked about the reason,

Why hard times have to be,

Why God in His great wisdom,

Does He not care for me?

God doesn't make us stumble

But He will help us up.

He'll walk along beside us

Until we're strong enough.

And so, around some wooded bend

Not too far down the road,

The sun will rise above the hill

Again life turns to gold.

The Mysteries of God

The mysteries of God abound

from ocean floors to rocky ground,

From galaxies we cannot see

to the miracle of Calvary.

From mountains white with winter snow,

to Flander's Field where poppies grow,

I see the power of His hand

from redwood trees to desert sand.

From misty rainbows high above

to the gentle cooing of a dove,

There is so much I do not know

as tides repeat their ebb and flow.

From Autumn leaves at harvest time,

to majestic Alps I cannot climb,

Who can explain the bursting pod

or know the mysteries of God?

Clay Harrison

Let a man so consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. I Cor. 4:1

He's Always Been That Way

He knows my needs before I do,

He's always been that way,

He walks before me just to clear

The stones out of the way.

He hears my faintest whisper,

And He tells me there's a reason

As to why He put me here.

He know my faults and failings,

And the times that I complain,

My trials and tribulations,

And plans that were in vain.

But He says this doesn't matter,

And it all will pass away,

That I've only but to trust Him,

For He made me out of clay.

So I take the bits and pieces,

Of this life I've come to know,

And I tell Him "all for Jesus,"

...As I did so long ago,

And I feel my burden lifted,

And I know that come what may,

His love for me is endless,

And He's always been that way!

Grace E. Easley

A Vessel of Honor

A vessel of honor for God,

To be what He wants me to be,

Sanctified, holy, redeemed by His grace,

His love always shining in me.

A vessel of honor for God,

To do what He wants me to do,

Yielded and willing His servant to be,

To serve with heart pure and true.

A vessel of honor for God To go where He wants me to go,

His call obeying, whatever the cost,

With courage to conquer the foe.

A vessel of honor for God,

Desired above everything.

May I prove worthy His vessel to be,

And glory to His dear Name bring.

Wonderment

Something puts the trills in birds,

Springtime's breezes, whispering words.

Something makes the sun to glow,

Puts on Fall's majestic show.

Something scents the rose so fair,

Brushes blush upon the pear.

Something paints a rainbow arc,

Lights the firefly at dark.

Something greens the pastureland,

Sows wildflowers, stately grand.

Something sends a gentle rain,

Greens the maples by the lane.

Yes, something brings this wonderment,

So lovely, precious, heaven-sent.

It's God Whose unseen hand on high,

Brings all these wonders ever nigh.

God's Handiwork

Last eve the snow cloaked hills and vales

In alabaster white

And all was quiet and none did stir

'Til early morning light.

Farm buildings huddled in the cold,

Some shivered in the breeze -

In crept a little noiseless noise

Among the cypress trees.

But soon the sun rose in the East

A ribbon at a time,

Sunlight and shadows then played tag -

The scene somewhat sublime.

God paints the heavens blue and gold

Spreads carpets on the fields,

At night He fills the sky with stars

Such beauty He reveals.

Mankind can never think to match

The handiwork of He,

Who made the universe and reigns

Throughout eternity!

Feathers from Heaven

The soft cool flakes of gentle snow,

When first it starts to fall;

Which makes of earth a featherbed,

Delights me most of all!

For what surpasses beauty of

The moonlight upon snow;

Which radiates a fairyland,

Upon the world below.

And who but God can fashion such,

As lovely snowy night;

Which brings about a burst of joy,

To all who witness sight?

Of childhood days, now long, long past,

When snow so special be;

I've not forgotten, nor will I,

For God gives memories!

The Power of Prayer

I cannot face the day alone

Not knowing what is there,

So I must seek the Father's Will

As I kneel down in prayer.

I need His guidance every day

Upon this path of life,

To give me peace, so deep within

While facing fears and strife.

He sees me through the "valley" days

But when my heart soars high,

He shares my joy and laughter, too,

Yet sees each tear I cry.

So early in the morning, when

The day is fresh and new,

I bow before the Father's throne

And pray for strength anew.

Then when the nighttime shadows fall

Upon my pillow there,

I cannot fall asleep before

I go to God in prayer.

Dear Lord, I thank You for Your love,

For You are always there

And for the line that's open, Lord,

When I kneel down in prayer.

Retreat

Close out the world

And come to me,

Distractions leave behind;

I am your life, your soul's sweet breath,

The healer of your mind.

Begin to know the meaning of

A secret place with Me;

I wait within your heart to hear

You praise ME joyfully.

I dwell within your inner court

And wait to speak with you,

To give direction to your life,

To guide in all you do.

Could you but understand, My child,

That though your heart seeks ME,

You are distracted by world's cares,

Breaking affinity...

To block communication, the messages I speak,

Please ponder this, for quiet time

Holds answers that you seek.

Draw not your own conclusions;

Put confidence in ME

Grow daily in obedience

To reach maturity.

Our God of Mercy

The years, the years, so quickly passed,

Yes, how the years pass on;

I long to grab them back again -

Undo what I did wrong.

But this is foolish wanting, for

I never can undo,

Nor ever could do perfectly

The things I now do rue.

Those things that do most regret,

And often think about -

I now must trust to God, whose love

Is working all things out!

Lyn Fenimore Nuzzi
