I am looking for any information on the following names or variations of their spelling.
JOHNBAUSKY, JACOBS, JOKUBAUSKAS, JACOBOSKY, JACOBOWSKY,
JACOBOWSKI, JACOBAUSKY, JACOBASKY , JANBOWSKI, JAKUBAUSKUS,
JAKUBOWSKI, JANKAUSKUS, JANKOWSKI, GLADDEN, GLADAS.
My grandfather was born in Lithuania 25 May 1876. He immigrated to this country about 1893. What route, vessel & where he arrived I do not know. I do not know his whereabouts until 1898.
He became a naturalized citizen 01 Nov 1898, registered in Vermilion County (Danville), Illinois. I have a copy of this document. The name on the certificate is Stony JOHNBAUSKY. I have been informed that this name is an obvious "misspelling", hence not a "good" Lithuanian name. Family members have always said that the original name was pronounced "JACOBOWSKY" or "JACOBUSKUS. The correct spelling is not know at this time.
After his naturalization, sometime within the next year, he began going by Stanley Anton JACOBS. He also had a younger brother who immigrated to the U.S. shortly after he arrived. His brother was John JACOBS. His arrival date was probably around 1894. According to the 1920 census information, he was naturalized in 1900. At this time, I do not know where he was naturalized. Both Stanley Anton JACOBS & John JACOBS were coal miners.
Stanley Anton JACOBS married my grandmother, Mary Ann GLADDEN (GLADAS?), in Springfield, Illinois on 21 Aug 1899 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Mary Ann GLADDEN was born in Lithuania 02 Nov 1881. I know nothing of her immigration and/or arrival in this country. I have been told also, that GLADDEN is not a "good" Lithuanian name. Would probably have been something like GLADAS. John JACOBS also married a Lithuanian immigrant, Agnes STRASCHENSKY, who arrived in this country in 1901. John & Agnes JACOBS settled & raised their family in Macoupin County, Illinois. Recently I have learned that they owned some property around Maryville, Illinois (Madison County), leading me to believe that they lived there for a short period of time. Their children were: John, Nellie, Joe & Eula. John JACOBS died in 1956, his wife AGNES died in 1953. Both are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie, Illinois (Macoupin County).
Stanley Anton JACOBS & Mary Ann (GLADDEN, GLADAS?), settled in Springfield, Illinois (Sangamon County), where they raised their family. Their children were: Marian Helen JACOBS, Edward Frank JACOBS and John William JACOBS. All are deceased. Mary Ann JACOBS (GLADDEN, GLADAS?) died 20 Aug 1931. Stanley Anton JACOBS died 30 Mar 1934. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
I am puzzled by the name as recorded on my grandfathers naturalization certificate (have copy), but am unable to find the "intent" petition. Until I can somehow tie the correct spelling of the name, as pronounced "Jacobowsky" or Jokubauskas down, I cannot proceed to trace them backwards as they left their homeland to come to the U.S.A.
I am open to any ideas and/or suggestions that may help me.

Researching: Jehu Jacobs
John Jacobs married and lived in Pennsylvania for a number of
years. It was there that the following children were born:
Richard and Benjamin, Jehu and Mark, and one daughter, Betsy
Jane. After the death of his first wife, John married again and
two more children, Nancy and John were born while they were
still living in Pennsylvania.
About the year 1789 John moved with his family to Rockbridge county, Virginia, and they live there almost sixteen years. During that time he had four more children: Cadwalder, Hannah, Pheba and Elentus. His two oldest sons, Richard and Benjamin married and moved to New York. Mark married Margaret Secat in Virginia. Her mother, a native of Germaney, had come to Virginia when she was a young girl and had married a Mr Secat, living in Virginia.
In the year if 1804m siib after Ohio was admitted as a state, the family of John Jacobs, with the exception of his daughter, Nancy, who married Gilbreth Hamilton and remained in Virginia, all emigrated to Ohio and settled in the southern part of Warren county, near the little Miami river, about twenty miles north of Cincinnati.
