Bonham

The Bonham family of Grayson County trace their ancestors to a Massachusetts family of English descent. There is a record of Nicholas Bonham who married Hannah Fuller, the granddaughter of two Pilgrims. Some members of the Bonham family moved to Burlington County, New Jersey, (ca) 1666, then to Chester County, Pennsylvannia, to Loudon County, VA and then to Wythe County, VA. Joseph Bonham was on the 1782 tax list in Loudon County, then his will is recorded in Wytheville in 1803. The widow of Moses Bonham, Reecca Park Bonham, came with five sons and daughters to the Rye Valley. In 1815, William Bonham owned one farm on Fox Creek, joining the lands of Jonathan Anderson, 207 acres, having thereon one dwelling house of logs (20'X18'), one kitchen, stable, valued at $450. There was also another tract on Fox Creek, joining the lands of P. Gains, 50 acres, no improvements, valued at $15.
