Algonquin Community Guide

Community Overview

Algonquin is a village of about 12,000 on the Fox River 48 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Algonquin's proximity to Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Elgin has allowed it to experience rapid growth, and the town seeks to promote industrial expansion. Recreational opportunities include the facilities of local parks, including sports fields, tennis courts, outdoor pool, and playgrounds. Two private golf-courses are located in Algonquin, and residents may take advantage of the Park District programs in nearby Crystal Lake and Barrington. Residents of the Kane County portion of Algonquin can participate in Kane County Park District programs as well. School-aged children attend Unit District 300 schools (K-12th.) *See below for details on schools.

Transportation needs are served by major expressways (I-90, 6 miles south) and major local roads (I-31), Northwest Tollway (U.S. 14). Commuter service to downtown is provided at Metra stations in Elgin, Cary, Crystal Lake or Barrington. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes (express). The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
