Alsip Community Guide
Community Overview
Alsip is a village of about 18,000 17 miles south of downtown Chicago. It has a large number of industrial, warehousing and commercial businesses, as well as an active park district program and village-sponsored programs and events (including two annual festivals in the summer and winter). Grade school-aged children attend district 126 schools, except for a small number in districts 125, 128 or 130. Secondary students go to High School district 218 schools. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-57, I-94/Dan Ryan Expwy., I-294/Tri-State Tollway, I-80). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra/Norfolk Southern Line via the nearby Blue Island station. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes.
