Elmwood Park Community Guide

Community Overview

Elmwood Park is a village of about 24,000 12 miles west of downtown Chicago. While mainly residential, the city is working on attracting commercial development, with areas such as Elmwood Commons Shopping Center recently completed. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Elmwood Park Recreation Department. Grade-school-aged children attend unit districts 401 (K-12th. grades), the only unit district in Suburban Cook County. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-90/Kennedy Expwy., I-290/Eisenhower Expwy.), and major local roads (Grand Ave., Harlem Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Milwaukee District West Line (MD-W). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 20-25 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
