Glen Ellyn Community Guide

Community Overview

Glen Ellyn is a primarily residential community of about 25,000 located 23 miles west of Chicago, which borders the suburbs of Wheaton, Lombard, Glendale Heights and Lisle. 14 public and 2 private schools serve the area, along with the Technology Center of DuPage in nearby Addison. A variety of small retail stores are located in the downtown area, and businesses/offices along Roosevelt Road include a Jewel/Osco Grocery/Drugstore, Dominicks Supermarket, Holiday Inn, and the Roosevelt Glen Corporate Center. The Health Track Recreation Complex is also located along Roosevelt Road. Four community hospitals serve the area, along with Glen Ellyn Clinic. Grade school-aged children attend schools in districts 41, 44, and 89, while teenagers go to Glenbard South or West, both in district 87.

Transportation needs are served by area highways ((Eisenhower Expwy. - I-290, Tri-State (I-294), North/South Tollway (I-355), East-West Tollway (I-88)) and major local roads (Rte. 38 - Roosevelt Rd., Routes 64, 56, and 53). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info.
