Community Overview

Harvard is a village of about 6,500 60 miles northwest of downtown Chicago in the Chain O'Lakes region. Recreational opportunities include the numerous lakes in the areas and the facilities surrounding them. School-aged children attend unit district 50 schools (K-12th. grades). *See below for details on schools.

Transportation needs are served by area highways and major local roads. Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 80 minutes (express). The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.

Recreation

Harvard offers a municipal swimming pool at Lions Park with recreational and instructional swimming. This park also provides a playground and other recreational facilities. There is a public golf course as well. The town maintains six parks. Various organizations provide additional recreational programs including Harvard Educational Recreational Softball (815-943-5680), Harvard Youth Soccer Organization (815-943-6151), Harvard Jr. Tackle (815-943-4986), and Men's Softball League (815-943-3136).
