Grayslake Community Guide
Community Overview
Grayslake is a village of about 7,400 54 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The town has a mix of industrial, retail/commercial and residential development, and expects a steady population growth. Recreational opportunities include Park District programs, boating and fishing on the lakes and ponds in the area, skiing on nearby slopes, the facilities of the local forest preserves and parks, and Illinois Beach State Park and North Point Marina, both on Lake Michigan's shores. Grade school-aged children attend district 46 and 50 schools, while secondary students go to Grayslake High School, district 127. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94) a few miles east, and major local roads (U.S. 45, I 83, Belvidere Rd., Washington St..). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Milwaukee District North Line (MD-N). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes (express).
