Lockport Community Guide

Community Overview

Lockport is a village of about 9,500 35 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. While largely residential, Lockport has industrial development, primarily along I-355. Recreational opportunities include the former Illinois & Michigan Canal (now a National Heritage Corridor which is part of the Federal Park System and features a bird sanctuary and trails for jogging, hiking, etc.). In addition, Lockport Township has an active Park District Program. Grade school-aged children attend one of several elementary school districts, and all area Secondary students attend Lockport Township High School, district 205. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-355/North-South Tollway),and major local roads (Archer Ave., Joliet Rd., 159th. St.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Heritage Corridor Train Line (HC). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 53 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
