Lynwood Community Guide

Community Overview

Lynwood is a village of about 6,500 30 miles south of downtown Chicago. Grade school-aged children attend schools in district 171 or 172. Secondary students go to Bloom Township High School, district 206 or Thornton Fractional High School, district 215. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-294/Tri-State Tollway, I-394/Calumet Expwy.), and major local roads (Rte. 83). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME) in Flossmoor or the South Shore train in Hammond. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 38 minutes (express).
