Lyons Community Guide

Community Overview

Lyons is a village of about 10,000 10 miles west of downtown Chicago. Recreational Opportunities include the facilities, including an extensive system of parks, maintained by the village recreation department, as well as the park district programs of nearby Brookfield. Forest Preserve land along the Des Plaines River and Salt Creek offers biking and hiking trails. Brookfield Zoo is nearby. Grade school-aged children attend district 103 schools, while secondary students go to Morton West High School, district 201, in neighboring Berwyn or Riverside Brookfield High, district 208. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-290/Eisenhower Expwy.), and major local roads (Cermak Road, Cumberland Ave., Harlem Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Burlington Northern Line (BN) in Riverside and Summit. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 15 minutes (express).
