Mettawa Community Guide

Community Overview

Mettawa is a residential village of about 350 35 miles north of downtown Chicago. The town was rated by the U.S. Census Bureau in 1992 as Illinois' wealthiest community. Recreational/Cultural opportunities include the facilities of nearby forest preserves and the park district programs in nearby Libertyville and Lake Forest. Grade school-aged children attend Rondout school, district 72. Secondary students go to Libertyville High School, district 128. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-294/Tri-State Tollway and U.S. 41), and major local roads (St. Mary's Rd., I-21/Milwaukee Ave., I-60/Townline Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Milwaukee Road Line in Libertyville or Lake Forest. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 45 minutes (express).
