Riverside Community Guide

Community Overview

Riverside is a village of about 8,800 11 miles west of downtown Chicago. Recreational Opportunities include the facilities, including an extensive system of parks, maintained by the village recreation department. Forest Preserve land along the Des Plaines River and Salt Creek offers biking and hiking trails. Brookfield Zoo is nearby. Grade school-aged children attend district 96 schools, while secondary students go to Riverside-Brookfield High School, district 208. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-290/Eisenhower Expwy.), and major local roads (Cermak Road, Cumberland Ave., Harlem Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Burlington Northern Line (BN) in Riverside. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 20-25 minutes.
