Skokie Community Guide

Community Overview

Skokie is a town of about 60,000 13 miles north of downtown Chicago. The village has a large retail base, including the recently renovated Old Orchard shopping center, as well as companies such as G.D. Searle and Rand McNally located within its borders. It also features an active Park District and Public Library. Six elementary (65, 68, 69, 72, 73, and 73.5) and two high school districts (202 & 219) serve Skokie. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Edens Expwy., I-90/Kennedy Expwy.),and major local roads (Skokie Blvd., Dempster St., Touhy Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra at the Park Ridge station, and by the CTA Skokie Swift. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 24 (Express) and 32 minutes respectively. Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
