Wauconda Community Guide

Community Overview

Wauconda is a village of about 6,300 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Recreational opportunities include fishing and water sports at Bangs Lake, cross country skiing at the Lakewood Forest Preserve's Hills and an active Park District program. History Buffs may enjoy the Andrew Cook Home, operated by the Wauconda Township Historical Society (711 N. Main St., 847-526-9393), open Sunday afternoons from May through September. All grade school-aged children attend Community Unit (K-12) District 118 schools, while some secondary students attend Mundelein High School, district 120. A Catholic Grade School is also located in Wauconda. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by major local roads (U.S. 12/Rand Rd., I-59). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra at the Barrington station. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 90 minutes (including the drive to Barrington). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
