Wheaton Community Guide

Community Overview

Wheaton is a suburban community of about 52,000 located 23 miles west of Chicago. A primarily residential community, it is the county seat of DuPage county. 20 public schools (Unit K-12th. grade District 200) serve the area, along with several private religious and parochial schools and a military academy. Wheaton's downtown district, which has undergone renovation, has a variety of retail establishments. 37 churches and other religious organizations are located in Wheaton. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Wheaton Park District.

Transportation needs are served by area highways ((Eisenhower Expwy. - I-290, Tri-State (I-294), North/South Tollway (I-355), East-West Tollway (I-88)) and major local roads (Rte. 38 - Roosevelt Rd., Routes 64, 56, and 53). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info.
