Zion Community Guide

Community Overview

Zion is a village of about 20,000 45 miles north of downtown Chicago. While still semi-rural and family-oriented, Zion has an industrial base including 20 different industries. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Park District, and Illinois Beach State Park and North Point Marina, both on Lake Michigan's shores. Grade school-aged children attend school in districts 3 or 6, while secondary students go to Zion-Benton Township High School, district 126. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94) a few miles west, and major local roads (I-173/Rosecrans Rd., I-137/Sheridan Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 70 minutes (express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
