All About Us

Every man's life is a plan of God.--Horace Bushnell

Life goes on... and at this point I'm not sure if that's a statement of humankind‘s indomitable spirit or a condemnation of life’s bitter irony. Life indeed goes on, but all too often without the passion. And I question now more than ever, who among us truly lives? Life moves at a swifter pace than we perceive, and in the end the fullness of our being is summed up in the tiny dash that separates our birth and death. And it doesn't matter how long you live, or how well. Every dash is cut the same length, the same depth.

Katie Mae Parker Katie Mae is our firstborn, and came into the world on November 13, 1986, overshooting her due date by 17 days. She still likes to take her time with everything and never seems to be in a rush, despite keeping a busy schedule. She has always exuded confidence and never bowed to peer pressure, and I admire that in her most of all. And she never fails to challenge herself...

The summer before her senior year of high school (despite all the upheaval at home), she taught herself to play trombone so she could join the marching band. And she didn't just learn enough to get by, she practiced and studied to become one of the best trombone players in band (second only to her brother), and received the award for Most Improved Student at the end-of-the-year Band Banquet. She loves music and has a widely varying taste that includes everything from what's playing on the radio to choral and opera. Yeah, she's a classy lady, but as down to earth as a mud pie.

Katie Mae is currently a sophomore at Georgia State University in Atlanta majoring in Film Production, and is cross-registered at Georgia Tech where she is a member of the marching band and the school chorus. Oh, and I love her boyfriend!

Gentry Parker Gentry is our New Year's baby, and was born January 1, 1989. He has always - always - had a remarkably adult sense of humor accompanied with a sharp wit that was often more aggravating than entertaining to his young peers. But I've always loved it because he always makes me laugh, and I love to laugh. His humor is my favorite thing about him. He's smart too, genuinely gifted in many areas, especially math, which is expressed in exceptional musical talent.

He was first trombone during three years of middle school, and held that position during his years off and on in the high school band, and when just a freshman, he was appointed Section Leader! He sings, too, and has been a member of his school chorus since 5th grade. He's a musical wiz alright, but his true gift is in composing. He loves to write music; not just songs, but orchestrated compositions utilizing hundreds of instruments! His creativity knows no bounds, and he's also a talented producer of videos, which he publishes on the web.

On a side note, Gentry is the child my mother always wished on me when she would say, "I hope you have a kid just like you." And he is! LoL. I can see so much of myself in him, and always have. But I never saw so much of myself that I couldn't see him. I like Gentry. He's always been sensitive and full of emotion. And he's compassionate; when he was little his hugs always included reassuring pats on the back that told me not only how much he loved me, but how much he cared. He's currently a junior at Cartersville High School and, with any luck, will graduate in May 2008.
