Sarah D. Gillespie Tent No. 7
Sarah D. Gillespie Tent No. 7, Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, was chartered May 24, 1919 with 44 charter members.
The Tent was named in honor of Sarah D. Gillespie who was an Army Nurse, Co. C., First Nebraska Infantry. Its first president was her daughter, Emma B. (Gillespie) Susong, a charter member. Her husband, Lt. John Gillespie, was enlisted in Co. C, First Nebraska Infantry. He later became Territorial Auditor and was appointed by the State Legislature as one of the three commissioners to lay out the town of Lincoln. All three Gillespie family members are buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.
