I have been a fan of Gone With the Wind for over two decades now, running onto the book the long summer I spent in my body cast after my back surgery as a child. I have since read the book other times, and I bought the video as soon as I could in the early 90s. I especially enjoy the book because each time I read it, I find things and ideas I had missed before. At different times in my life, I have found myself to feel differently about the characters, which makes it a whole new book and new experience.

I was often inspired by the book and movie at a time when I fancied myself an artist. Here are a couple of the works of art I did, seemingly on a common theme:

Pencil Drawing from the "Marry me, Scarlett" scene. (I once painted this, but I gave the painting to a friend, so I don't have it.) This is a typewritten picture adaptation of the picture from the publicity poster I typed for a contest in Enquirer in 1985. (Click the picture to see a larger version.)
See my Cross Stitch Page for the cross stitch I did of the graph.

I endeavored to make GWTW Quote of the Week pages for much of the year. I have since stopped, but please click the above link to check out the quote pages I made. The quotes were chosen at random (okay, not so random, as many come from my favorite parts of the book) from the actual wording of Margaret Mitchell's prose. The backgrounds I made up myself using Paint Shop Pro.

I also have three books on Gone With The Wind which provide inspiration:

Gone With the Wind, The definitive Illustrated History of the Book, the Movie, and the Legend, Herb Bridges, 1989.

Pictorial History of Gone With the Wind, Gerald Gardner and Harriet Modell Gardner, 1980.

David O. Selznick's Gone With the Wind, Ronald Haver, 1986.
