Be nice to your first officer, he may be your captain at your next airline.

John,

Here is the web address that the 3 photos are posted:
http://www.geocities.com/~cyoungers/test.htm   My phone # is 253 529 2718.
Look at this web site and it will show you 3 photos that Res e-mailed of
wiring in the MD-11 IFES SYSTEM. In addition he sent me another 4 photos
showing me some original wiring that also I have spotted poor installation
techniques concerning the KAPTON wiring. I was interviewed by Res's TV
station and I pointed these out which would have aired over in Switzerland
yesterday.

If you look closely at photo #1, on the right side, it shows 14 terminals of a
terminal strip. Look at the wires hooking to tertminals 1,3,4,5. The wires
go in almost at straight angle because they have been assembled to the correct
length. Now look at terminals 2,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13, & 14. The wires a just
a little too long. Any wires that show a sharp 90 degree bend, like #2,
6,7,13, and 14 have been bent with probably NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS which have
teeth and can damage the wire insulation. The wire is quite plyable and it is
impossible to make a sharp 90 degree bend without using (long nose or needle
nose pliers.)

Now look at photo #2 and notice how the orange wires hooked up to the circuit
breakers. A nice SMOOTH BEND. These are correctly hooked up to the C/Bs.

Now look at photo #3. See the C/B in the center. There is a orange wire, and
a blue wire (right side of C/B) that have sharp 90 degree bends. Also at the
top of the C/B there are two smaller wires that have sharp bends. Right side
C/B has a yellow lug (at the top of C/B) with a wire (can't see the color)
that has a sharp 90 degree bend. These 90 degree bends or greater were used
to make adjustments for the wire being (not cut to length)--too long.

I pointed this out on Swiss TV. It appears that they were in a hurry in
making the installation. They should have: cut the wire to length, re-
stripped the wire, re-lugged the wire and then made a correct installation.
The other 4 photos, I have spotted some POOR INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES that
were used in the original installation of the KAPTON wire. There wasn't
enough room on the site, that my son-in-law posted the other 3 photos, so I
could not include the additional 4 photos. No wonder the FAA issued that AD
to inspect the wiring on all MD-11s.

Yes I have the copy of the video tape ready to go but I don't know what exact
address it should be sent. If Nick calls and gives me the address, I'll have
it picked up Monday and on its way.
