On March 20th, 1630, John Benham and his wife boarded their
"Ship of Dreams" the Mary and John.
They sailed from Plymouth, Devonshire, England and landed on May 30th at Nantasket Point.  The next day, Captain Squib put them on shore and left them.  John paid for their passage by being bound as an indentured servant.

They found a neck of land called Mattapan, and named their town Dorchester, Mass., where he requested the privilige of Freeman on October 10th, 1630, and was granted his freedom on May 18, 1631.  He later became one of the founding members of New Haven Connecticut in 1639.

When the Pursley, Nichols, Burch and Matthews families came to Barren Co., their main threat was Indians.  Though it seems none of them were ever harmed, there are documented stories of families all around them who were murdered or scalped and left for dead.

Our forefathers suffered many hardships that we today, cannot even imagine.  The sole purpose of this website is to make their story known, and to help people all over the world find their family and their lineage they have been searching for.  But above all, it is a tribute to those who have gone before us.

I would like to dedicate this website to James Lee Wignall of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Ruth Matthews Nossem of Paris, Tennesse, without who's help, I would have never been able to have written our family book, nor tracked down the family lines.  Most of what you will see here, could never have been accomplished without their help, consideration and devotion.  They have become a permanent part of my life, for which I thank God, every day.

I am working diligently to finish this website.  All links should work, but if you click  link that tells you the section is not done, please email me, as this site has grown to more than 200 pages and I am trying to add something new everyday.  You may access the
Guidepage from the link at the bottom, but first, please take a look at our awards.
