Breastfeeding certainly runs in our family. I have my dear mother to thank for my child-rearing philosophy.....see, Mom, I was listening, watching, and learning!! I just wanted to quickly share a bit about my mother. I am the oldest of 7 breastfed children--all weaned, by the way! :) My mother was a La Leche League leader for years and was/is a RN, IBCLC. (Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) As you can imagine, I haven't had to go far when I've had a breastfeeding question!
Looking back on my childhood, I realize how lucky I was! It was not uncommon to walk into my living room as a child and see a dozen or more nursing moms at one time! I probably attended more LLL meetings and conventions before age 18 than most women do in a lifetime! I remember Mom giving breastfeeding advice and help over the phone more times than I can count.....it wasn't long before I knew all of the tips and hints almost word-for-word!
At the time, I took all of this for granted--not realizing how important my mother was to the many breastfeeding moms who sought her help. After I had my 1st child, I realized what a blessing my mother must have been to all of those ladies! I couldn't imagine not having her support and encouragement. THANKS, MOM!!!!! |
