The Buckrake

The buckrake(also called a "sweep" in some areas)is actually a truck that has been stripped of its cab and altered (the transfer case has been turned over so that the gears will go in the opposite direction. A large wooden basket about 14 feet across and 5 feet high has been mounted to the front of the buckrake. The basket is made of wooden poles that are sharpened on the end to make them pointed. They are referred to as "teeth." The teeth are about 7-9 feet long. To the side of the driver is a lever that when pulled down, will raise the basket. It takes great skill and strength to operate the buckrake. Picture of buckrake
