Critters for You Pond

Daphnia, Amphipods, and the Hydra

consume2.gif (6929 bytes) The critter in the center is a Daphnia

Daphnia and Amphipods look much the same.  However, their eating habits are quite different.  Daphnia will eat the Green Algae Suspension we call a "bloom" and the Amphipods (much bigger) will eat what is know as filamentous algae (stringy algae).  The Hydra are kept in the pond to assist in the food chain.  Hydra feed on Daphnia and Amphipods, and just about anything else it can get it's little tentacles on.  The Hydra is the blob in the lower right that is not translucent.

Where to get Daphnia, Amphipods, and Hydra.
