Kenneth L. Skinner Poems
Kenneth L. Skinner wrote a book entitled "With Wings As Eagles" and it
came into my possession quite by accident. It is the account of his struggle with a catastrophic disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare illness that affects the peripheral nerves of the body. He gives you a very detailed account of his 364-day stay in the hospital, totally paralyzed from the neck down (115 of those days were in ICU, strapped to a respirator). I had heard of the disease before I saw his book and when I saw that he lived only a few miles from me, I was even more interested. Mr. Skinner reminds us in a very vivid manner how fortunate we are when our physical bodies work as they should. It is a gift that no one should ever take for granted. His poems that I have on these pages are so full of wisdom and meaning. He gave his permission for me to share them with you.
