Kenneth L. Skinner Poems

They that Wait on the Lord plaque

Eagle Bar

Kenneth L. Skinner wrote a book entitled "With Wings As Eagles" and it came into my possession quite by accident. It is the account of his struggle with a catastrophic disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare illness that affects the peripheral nerves of the body. He gives you a very detailed account of his 364-day stay in the hospital, totally paralyzed from the neck down (115 of those days were in ICU, strapped to a respirator). I had heard of the disease before I saw his book and when I saw that he lived only a few miles from me, I was even more interested. Mr. Skinner reminds us in a very vivid manner how fortunate we are when our physical bodies work as they should. It is a gift that no one should ever take for granted. His poems that I have on these pages are so full of wisdom and meaning. He gave his permission for me to share them with you.

The scripture quote at the top of the page was an inspirational promise from our Father above that served Mr. Skinner as a motivational force to help him overcome the adversity he suffered.
