Happy Valentine's Day, Billy

Our history goes back a long way, all the way
to 1949 when at the age of 7 in the second grade,
you gave me a valentine that read,
"Valentine, don't you think we'd make a good pear?"
The valentine had a yellow picture of the fruit.

(Click here to see the valentine.)
You have to be careful with valentines;
you never know when someone will hold you to
the promise, even in the second grade.

I did wait a long time before I held you to it.
Actually, you didn't show much interest again
until our senior year in high school.
We dated some and then you went to college.
We soon started seeing each other every weekend
and writing letters during the week.
I was working about 80 miles away. We thought
we would wait for marriage until after college,
but changed our minds in your senior year and
married on December 29, 1963.

As it is with most marriages, ours has been a
mixture of good times, bad times, better times,
and the best of times.

I think you'll agree that our dependence on God
and regular attendance in church are the reasons
that we are still married and
still love each other.

SENSES OF LIFE
By Glenn J Andrews

Smell the perfume of a rose,
Sweet sensation fills your nose.

Touch its splendid velvet form,
Prick your finger on a thorn.

Glimpse wondrous colours to behold,
Watch shape and form as bud unfolds.

Taste the nectar mixed with dew,
Taste buds tingle, mind does too.

Hear the buzzing of busy bees,
Gentle breezes, rustling leaves.

Senses all brought into play,
Mother Nature has won today.

Forget your troubles, don't be sad,
You are alive, so just be glad.

"I Love You Because"
By Leon Payne

I love you because you understand, dear
Ev'ry single thing I try to do.
You're always there to lend a helping hand, dear,
I love you most of all because you're you.
No matter what the world may say about me,
I know your love will always see me through.
I love you for the way you never doubt me,
But most of all I love you 'cause you're you.

I love you because my heart is lighter
Every time I'm walkin' by your side.
I love you because the future's brighter,
The door to happiness you open wide.

No matter what the world may say about me,
I know your love will always see me through.
I love you for a hundred thousand reasons,
But most of all I love you 'cause you're you.

"If There Hadn't Been You"
By Billy Dean

A man filled with doubt,
down and out and so alone,
A ship tossed and turned,
lost and yearning for a home,
A survivor barely surviving,
not really sure of his next move,
All of this I would've been
if there hadn't been you.
If there hadn't been you, where would I be,
If there hadn't been you here for me,
I made it through times I never would
have made it through if there hadn't been you.

A man filled with hope,
Who finally knows where he belongs,
A heart filled with doubt more than enough
to keep it strong,
A life that's alive again,
no longer afraid to face the truth,
All of this I would've missed,
If there hadn't been you.

If there hadn't been you on my side,
If there hadn't been you in my life,
All my dreams would still be dreams
If there hadn't been you.

"Have I Told You Lately That I Love You"
By Scott Wiseman

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Could I tell you once again somehow?
Have I told with all my heart and soul how I adore you,
Well, darling, I'm telling you now.

My world would end today if I should lose you,
I'm no good without you anyhow,
This heart would break in two if you refuse me,
Well, darling, I'm telling you now.

Have I told you lately how I miss you,
When the stars are shining in the sky?
Have I told you why the nights
are long when you're not with me,
Well, darling, I'm telling you now.

My world would end today if I should lose you,
I'm just no good without you anyhow,
This heart would break in two if you refuse me,
My darling, I'm telling you now.

"Memories Are Made of This"
By Terry Gilkyson, Rich Dehr and Frank Miller

Take one fresh and tender kiss,
Add one stolen night of bliss,
One girl, one boy; some grief, some joy,
Memories are made of this.

Don't forget a small moonbeam,
Fold it lightly with a dream,
Your lips and mine, two sips of wine,
Memories are made of this.

Then add the wedding bells,
One house where lovers dwell,
Three little kids for the flavor,
Stir caref'ly through the days,
See how the flavor stays,
These are the dreams you will savor.

With His blessings from above,
Serve it generously with love,
One man, one wife; one love thru life,
Sweet Memories are made of this.

Memories are made of this.

"Always"
By Irving Berlin

I'll be loving you, always
With a love that's true, always.
When the things you plan
Need a helping hand
I will understand, always, always.

Days may not be fair, always
That's when I'll be there, always.
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
Not for just a year, but, always.

Days may not be fair, always
That's when I'll be there, always.
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
And, not for just a year, but, always.

Comments:
I read most all of your web pages, and they are very good.
Some bring back good memories. Oh, by the way,
we first met in Sept.1948, when we were 6 years old.
I liked you in the 2nd grade, but I really fell for you
when we started the 12th grade in Sept.1959;
and I have loved you ever since.
Happy Valentine's Day to you.
