SERMONS WE SEE
by Edgar Guest

I'd rather see a sermon than
hear one, any day;
I'd rather one would walk with
me than merely tell the way.

The eye's a better pupil and
more willing than the ear.
Fine counsel is confusing,
but example's always clear.

And the best of all the preachers
are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action
is what everybody needs.

And the lecture you deliver may
be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lessons
by observing what you do.

For I might misunderstand you
and the high advice you give,
But there's no misunderstanding
how you act and how you live.
I soon can learn to do it if
you'll let me see it done;
I can watch your hands in action but
your tongue too fast may run.

CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE
by Dorothy Law Nolte

If a child lives with criticism....
he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility....
he learns to fight.
If a child lives with fear....
he learns to be apprehensive.
If a child lives with jealousy....
he learns to feel guilt.
If a child lives with tolerance....
he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement....
he learns to be confident.
If a child lives with praise....
he learns to be appreciative.
If a child lives with acceptance....
he learns to love.
If a child lives with approval....
he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with recognition....
he learns that it is good to have a goal.
If a child lives with honesty....
he learns what truth is.
If a child lives with fairness....
he learns justice.
If a child lives with security....
he learns to trust in himself and others.
If a child lives with friendliness....
he learns the world is a nice place
in which to live.

TEACH YOUR CHILD

Before your child has come to seven,
Teach him the way to Heaven.

Better still the Truth will thrive,
If he knows it when he is five.

Better yet if on your knee,
He learns it when he's only three.

Best of all is when you have begun,
To teach him of God before he is one.
