The Last Revenge
by Mary Savage

It's amazing that she actually pulled it off. Two days is not a lot of time considering all that she had to do.

The casket, music, and flowers had all been pre-selected. This time it was a blessing that Jack had methodically laid out all the details. The obituary that he wrote about himself exceeded the newspaper's limit though, and she had to cut out a fair portion, choosing to remove the paragraph about his school accomplishments and his curriculum vitae.

When the funeral home politely refused her request, she had to scramble to find one that would do what she wanted. "I'm sorry, but this is a reputable business with a high profile to maintain in the community", said the funeral director. She got on the telephone and called a half dozen funeral homes, each time asking if they would comply with "special requests". She found one a little farther from where they lived, one that would never have been approved of by Jack.

On her first trip to the funeral home she stopped at the party store and purchased a clown suit and a clown make-up kit. She selected the most expensive suit because it came with a fuzzy red wig. The make-up kit had the standard assortment of greasepaint and directions for application. The clown's face on the package had just the right smirk.

The eulogy was delivered by a minister selected by Jack. All the people he had tried to impress while he was living were in attendance. These were Jack's "friends". This certainly was a funeral like no other, they were definitely impressed. Many would not speak to her in the reception line.

Before the casket was closed, she gave him a last kiss goodbye. Removing a tissue from her pocket, she wiped greasepaint from her lips.
