The earliest member of the Austin/Alston family we discovered thus far is my grandfather, William. He was born c. 1858 on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina. He was one of at least four children. (We believe his father's name was Peter, but we have not yet confirmed this information.) Two of his brothers were Paul Alston and Allen Belton. The only sister we discovered thus far is Beulah. William was an herbalist.
