I wrote this one about my husband - what I observed at our
grandaughter, Allie's, funeral. She died due to domestic violence... at the age of
two years old......1994
AN OBSERVATION OF LOVE, IN SILVER: AND BLUE
I noticed the silver in Grandaddy's soft hair
His blue eyes full of tears, for the grandbaby there
She slept like an angel, as he wept grieving tears
Her life only months, and his life many years
Though Grandaddy believed in whatever God's will
Yet today, in his hair there was more silver still
As it did not seem fair that her life was so short
But I knew she'd live long in her grandaddy's heart
I could see him reflecting on that cute little smile
With small hands patting softly, saying, "hold me awhile"!
Oh yes, she was special to this silver haired man
And she'd left him a lot, in her life's shortened span
As he lifed the veil, for one last kiss of love
Well knowing, she was now with the Father above
I watched, as grandaddy let his spirit break
His pain was so great, even I felt the ache
Well, now there were others in great need of his care
So he unclenched those big hands, that were folded in prayer
Then he rose to his feet, like the man we all knew
The soft hair, still more silver, Now his eyes, much more blue....
