LORD, help me to remember that nothing
is going to happen to me today that You and I together can't handle.
~Old preacher's greeting to a new day.

HELLO GOD
Hello God, I called tonight
To talk a little while...
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.
You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.
I want to ask you please to keep,
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.
Give me faith, Dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.
I thank you God, for being home
And listening to my call.
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall.
Your number, God, is the only one,
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.
So thank you God for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You, Too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

IF GOD SHOULD GO ON STRIKE
How good it is that God above has
never gone on strike,
Because he was not treated fair in
things he didn't like.

If only once he'd given up and said,
"That's it, I'm through!
I've had enough of those on earth,
so this is what I'll do.
"I'll give my orders to the sun-
cut off the heat supply!
And to the moon-give no more light,
and run the oceans dry.
Then just to make things really tough
and put the pressure on,
Turn off the vital oxygen till every breath is gone!"

You know he would be justified,
if fairness was the game,
For no one has been more abused
or met with more disdain
Than God, and yet he carries on,
supplying you and me
With all the favors of his grace,
and everything for free.
Men say they want a better deal,
and so on strike they go,
But what a deal we've given God to
whom all things we owe.
We don't care whom we hurt to
gain the things we like;
But what a mess we'd all be in,
if God should go on strike.

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY
I said a prayer for you today
and know God must have heard,
I felt the answer in my heart
although He spoke no word.
I didn't ask for wealth for fame,
I knew you wouldn't mind,
I asked Him to send treasures
of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that He'd be near you
at the start of each new day,
to grand you health and blessings
and friends to share the way.

I asked for happiness for you
in all things great and small,
but it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all.

THIS MOMENT
I may never see tomorrow; there's no written guarantee,
And things that happened yesterday belong to history,
I cannot predict the future, I cannot change the past,
I have just the present moment, I must treat it as my last.

I must use this moment wisely for it soon will pass away,
and be lost to me forever as part of yesterday,
I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet,
Be a friend unto the friendless, make an empty life complete.

The unkind things I do today may never be undone,
And friendships that I fail to win may nevermore be won,
I may not have another chance on bended knee to pray,
And thank God with humble heart for giving me this day.

HEAVEN'S GROCERY STORE
I was walking down life's highway
A long time ago.
One day I saw the sign that read,
"Heaven's grocery store."
As I got a little closer,
The door came open wide;
And when I came to myself,
I was standing inside.
I saw a host of angels,
They were standing everywhere.
One handed me a basket, and said,
"My child, shop with care."
Everything a Christian needed
Was in that grocery store.
And all you couldn't carry,
You could come back the next day for more.
First I got some Patience.
Love was in the same row.
Farther down was Understanding,
You need that wherever you go.
I got a box or two of Wisdom;
A bag of two of Faith;
I couldn't miss the Holy Ghost,
For it was all over the place.
I stopped to get some Strength and Courage
To help me run this race.
By then my basket was getting full,
But I remembered I needed some Grace.
I didn't forget Salvation,
For Salvation is free;
So I tried to get enough of that
To save both me and you.
Then I started to go up to the counter,
To pay my bill,
For I thought I had enough of everything
To do my Master's will.
As I went up the aisle, I saw Prayer,
And I just had to put that in.
For I knew that when I stepped outside,
I would run into Sin.
Peace and Joy were plentiful,
They were on the last shelf.
Song and Praise were hanging near,
So I just helped myself.
Then I said to the angel,
"Now how much do I owe?"
He just smiled and said,
"Just take them everywhere you go"
Again I smiled and said,
"How much do I really owe?"
He smiled and said,
"My child, Jesus paid your bill,
A long time ago."

THE MUTT
The first time I laid eyes on my brother's dog I didn't like him. He was a mangy mutt, utterly worthless as far as I was concerned. He didn't know any tricks. And if anybody had tried to break into our house, he would have helped them.

The dog knew how much I disliked him. He made it his mission to torment me, chewing up most everything I owned, including the title to my car.

One afternoon I agreed to watch the dog. But as I worked around the house, I soon forgot about him. Somehow the sneaky mutt got outside and ran into the street. The screeching of tires and a mournful yelp soon told me what had happened.

I'll never forget the pain on my brother's face when he came home. I'd never seen him cry until that day. And I cried inside watching him. I realized he saw this dog with different eyes than I did.

Sometimes it's like that with people. We meet others who look like mutts to us. They have irritating personalities, do things we don't like or cause us problems. We don't like them. Maybe we even hate them.

But Christ looks at each of us with different eyes. We each matter enough to die for. Every person counts. God mourns when even one gets lost.

My brother forgave me for my carelessness with his dog because he loves me. And I try to see the people who irritate or inconvenience me more like God does. I try to be more patient and accepting because as far as God is concerned there's no such thing as a mutt.

Dear Lord, "I wonder, as I get older and have more and more things go wrong with my body and my mind, what lies ahead."

I accept the fact I have to lay down this life before I can begin another, but I'm still a little bit scared. I like it here. I love my family and friends. I like the daily surprises, I even like the complaining. I want to live!

Whether I continue on in this life for a while longer or whether I begin my new life sooner than I'd bargained for, I guess it makes little difference. When I realize one life ends, another one will begin. As my friends cry "There she goes," another batch will be calling "Here she comes."

Dear Lord, I place myself in Your loving arms. Please easy my doubts, deepen my trust, calm my fears, touch my aches and pains, hang onto me and restore my insight

There is a God. There is more out there than meets the eye. There is a tomorrow. And I'm certain I'll be in it.

The Cross In My Pocket

I carry a cross in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be.

This little cross is not magic
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn’t meant to protect me
From every physical harm.

It’s not for identification
For all the world to see
It’s simply and understanding
Between my Savior and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or key
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me, too, to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say.

It’s also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master
And give themselves to His care.

So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life
If only I’ll let Him be.

THE TWO BOXES
I have in my hands two boxes
Which God gave me to hold
He said,"Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold."
I heeded his words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I store
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before
With curiosity, I opened the black
I wanted to find out why
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by
I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be."
He smiled a gentle smile at me.
"My child, they're all here with me."
I asked,"God, why give me the boxes,
"Why the gold, and the black with the hole?"
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
the black is for you to let go."

WHEN I COME TO HEAVEN
When I come to heaven Lord, what shall I bring
My golden necklace and my diamond ring?
I have some great treasures of jade, ivory and bone
And aren't we judged Lord, by what we own?
My important position, I've climbed so high
There just isn't anything my money won't buy.
So tell me again Lord, just what are your needs?
I've helped you a lot by doing good deeds.

You've got it all wrong, my child, my dear
All that I've wanted is having you near
While storing your treasures, there's much you forgot
My love and forgiveness can never be bought.
I offer it freely just ask and receive
But you never listened, you didn't believe
Your works and possessions are just filthy rags
So if you're coming to Heaven, unpack your bags
Just come as you are, It's you that I love
The price has been paid by the One up above.

COMFORT

When your heart is
sad and lonely,
And your friends seem far away,
Turn to Him Who is all holy,
And He'll drive your cares away.

When a dear one seems to fail you,
When for friendship true you long,
Confide in Him Who is all true,
And He'll right your every wrong.

Jesus' heart is your true refuge,
To Him you can always flee,
Even when your hopes are sinking,
He will then a True Friend be.

He will soothe your lonely spirit,
He will love and bless and say,
"Come to Me and I will comfort
You, today and every day."
