Brownie

Brownie found our home about 15 years ago when she was escaping from a life of dog fighting. She was being chased by a pack of dogs (she was in heat), some low life dog fighters, AND the dog catcher. As the dog catcher threw a net over her I yelled, "Leave my dog alone!" He let her go and said I must keep her in the fence. Well, she was sooooo wild that wasn't an easy task. I sat on the front porch throwing pieces of hot dogs into the yard and led her closer and closer to the gate. When she finally came through I leaped and closed the fence. She ran to a corner and hid behind a bush for several months. In fact she didn't let me touch her until the night she went into labor in a thunderstorm. She had her first puppy in the rain, and the rest in a fresh pile of hay in a huge doghouse that Ed built for her. I spent the night in there with her and helped her with all 8 puppies. We kept one of her puppies, Bro (what a GREAT dog he was!), for the rest of his life. Brownie was a wonderful watchdog until she went deaf about a year ago. No one would come in the yard more than once. Her bark definitely wasn't worse than her bite! I had to have her canine teeth pulled to prevent her from killing Peppi. They didn't know how to fight nicely. Her toothless bite still puts a pretty hard pinch on your leg.
