Are We Related?

We would like very much to make contact with relatives last known to be living in western Canada. Surnames include Battle, Gaslin, Cook, and Derrick. If you can help, please contact us by Email (aa531@fan.nb.ca) or fill out the form below.

History

Born to William Thomas Derrick (our great-grandfather) around 1870 in Bristol England, were two girls, Emily and Sarah Derrick. Emily died at a young age (probably in her early 30s) but not before marrying a Mr. Battle with whom she had 6 or 7 children. After her death and after the turn of the century, her sister Sarah, who never married, brought all of Emily's children with her to Canada. They first settled in Winnipeg, then later moved to Tofield, Alberta. At the time of her death, 23 Jan. 1939, Sarah was being cared for by a married niece, Mrs. B. Cook, in Calgary, Alberta.

We do not know all of the names of Sarah's nieces and nephew's (Emily Battle's children). There were Arthur and Sydney Battle, Gladys Gaslin, Mrs. B. Cook, and 2 or 3 others. At least one of the boys died in Europe during World War I.

About Us

Besides the two daughters, William Thomas Derrick had sons who settled in New Brunswick, Canada. Our families in New Brunswick kept in touch with Auntie Sarah but ,after her death in 1939, contact with that branch of the family fell off. Some of us have wished, for a long time, that we could locate these relatives. Now that we are connected to the internet we are renewing our efforts.
