This picture shows Jesus sitting at his workbench in Joseph's shop. A boy about seven years old has brought Jesus a toy sailboat with a broken mast. If you click on the picture, it will take you to the Jesus! My Best Bud! website.
The Bible says that during those years while Jesus was working in Joseph's carpentry shop, He "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man". I think He must also been a favorite of the children of Nazareth.
You know, sometimes big people can be kinda mean to kids, they don't even listen! How rude!
All the children knew that Jesus would help them no matter what; that He loved them more than He loved to work!
When Jesus became a man, He put away childish things, not children.
What must Joseph have thought when he saw Jesus lay down His hammer every time a child brought Him a broken toy? I hope he was glad too.

At the top of this page is a verse from the Bible.
Jesus' disciples ask Him who is really the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus tells a child to come forward and stands him in the middle of the group (imagine the child grinning as if he knows a secret). Jesus answers them, "I tell you the truth, if you don't change and become like little children, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven."
(All those grownups were worried about who was going to be the greatest and Jesus told them they wouldn't even get IN if they didn't change!)
How does Jesus want adults to change? How are little children different?
Grownups are proud; proud of their brains, their strength, their achievements.
Jesus came down here and by His innocent suffering and death made peace between God and the whole world.
Compared to that, what right does any of us have to think we've done something great?
Children realize that they can't really do a whole lot without help. That's what God wants grownups to remember too.
In the same way, if you give a child a free gift, he'll take it and go play with it, maybe even share it.
If you give a grownup a free gift, he'll probably think someting like,
"Now I owe this guy a favor."
We owe God the same things that Adam and Eve owed God before their sin made Jesus' free gift necessary; JUST BECAUSE HE'S GOD. That's what children know and adults sometimes forget.
