William and his family came across the US on a wagon train in 1865 (I have an account written by one of their daughters) and settled in Colusa County, California. William became sick and went back to MIssouri where he died of cancer in 1882. His wife stayed here in Calif. and lived with one of their daughters.

Tate, daughter of Carey Tate (25 Dec 1797-25 Dec 1873) & Rhoda
Robertson, in Andrew County, Missouri. Born on 25 Dec 1823 in
Daviess County, Indiana. Cynthia Anne died in Orland, Glenn County,
California on 14 Mar 1903; she was 79. They had the following

4. Elizabeth Piper.
Born on 27 Jan 1828 in Scott County, Illinois. Elizabeth died in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri on 12 May 1886; she was 58. On 4 May 1853 when Elizabeth was 25, she married John Dickerson Howell, in Cosby, Andrew County, Missouri. Born on 29 Apr 1833 in Tennessee. As is evident from the photo, Elizabeth Howell was affected by arthritis. She was not able to walk the last seven years of her life. John married twice after Elizabeth died. Both were Frazier women, perhaps sisters or cousins. They were probably related to Jim Frazier, the first husband of Sarah Piper, who seemed to have vanished. There was a letter (copy in Fahnestock Chronicles) signed John D. Howell, but it is in the handwriting of Elizabeth. It is quite possible that he was not literate. John Dickerson died in Union Chapel Cemetery, DeKalb County, MO on 19 Mar 1904; he was 70.

Oklahoma. The father of Alice, was John Howell's brother, according
to a descendant of Mary Ann. Alice married Jim Cook whose mother
was John Howell's sister, therefore they were cousins.

Obituary--- Piper.
John F. Piper was born in Scott County. Illinois May 5th 1839
and passed from this earth
April 5th, 1914. He came to Missouri with his parents in 1843,
locating in Andrew county near Cosby, and remained at that place
until 1860, when he returned to Bluffs, Ill., the place of his
birth. On July 4, 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary
A. McArthur, of Bluffs, ILL, and to this union five children were
born;four sons and one daughter, three of whom survive. The surviving
ones are, Duncan, of Union Star, Harry C, of Oak, and Mrs. Ida
G. Popplewell. February 1879 with his family he moved back to
Missouri, locating in Andrew county near the old home he had left
nineteen years before. March 1884 he moved from Cosby, to his
late home, 2 miles north east of Oak.He is survived by the wife,
three children, one sister, one brother and numerous other relatives.
Uncle John was one of the old.est residents of Sherman township
and although he was never connected with any political office
during his long career as a citizen, yet he was always ready to
work for the upbuilding of
the community. Funeral services were held at Union Chapel. the
services conducted by Rev. Cunningham of Maysville, after which
the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjacent.
Obituary
Mary A. McArthur was born in Monroeville, Jefferson County,
Ohio, December 31st, 1839, died December 29, 1914 and was buried
December 31st, the day she would have been 75 years old.
She was reared in Bluffs, Scott County,Ill; was married to John F. Piper on July 4th, 1861;five children came to this union, three of whom are now living. Duncan M., Harry C. and Mrs. Ida Popplewell, the other two having passed to the great beyond along with their father. She came to Missouri about the year 1880 and lived near Cosby, in Andrew County for five years, then moved to DeKalb County where she resided till her death. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter, Mrs. Ida Popplewell having been for several (???). She was converted in 1875 and joined the Methodist church, and had ever lived a Christian life, and was a kind and loving wife, and a good mother.

10. Martin V Piper. Born on 29 Sep 1840 in Scott County, Illinois. Martin V died in Chillicothe, Missouri on 14 Sep 1932; he was 91.
Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 From: margot avey While researching the McCully family tree (basically in Missouri) for a friend of mine, I discovered from information received from the Chillicothe, MO public library that Edith Jane Pillars (wife of James McCully until his death in 1903) married Martin V. Piper. The marriage year was not mentioned, but the newspaper specified this marriage connection. They lived in Chillicothe and both died there. Am curious to know if you have information on this, such as the date of marriage? I see it is not mentioned anywhere as even happening!
