"TO PROTECT AND SERVE"

A little about Jim.

My wife, Liz, and I were married in 1982. We have two kids, Jeni and Adam. I have two sons (Jeff and Chris) from a previous marriage. The kids' ages range from 23 to 12. Liz is the 9-1-1 Coordinator/ Co-Assistant DIrector of the University of Kansas Public Safety Office (I'm not sure, but I think that is the politically correct term for police department). She started there as a Student Dispatcher in 1978.

I first entered law enforcement in 1975 when I joined the Overland Park, Kansas Police Department as a Reserve Officer. In 1977, I hired on with the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department as a full time officer. I am a street level officer and have spent most of my time on the midnight shift. I am an EMT, a hostage negotiator a defensive tactics instructor. I am a certified to teach firearms, PR-24 Side handled Baton, Weapon Retention and Disarming System, Unarmed Knife Defense System, Control/Defensive Tactics System, Power Handcuffing System, Ground Fighting System, Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint System, and Arm Control/Escort System. I am also a National Trainer in the Casco Expandable Baton System.

I am currently working my way through the chairs, for the second time, of the Capitol Area Major Case Squad. M-Squad consists of law enforcement agencies from eight counties who join forces to work major case crimes, specifically homicides.

I am close to finishing my B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Washburn University ( however, my friends will tell you that I have had a BS degree for years). Working on my degree leaves me little time for my hobbies of hunting, fishing, and (even at almost 46 years of age) softball. I also help coach a YABA bowling league.
