MY FAVORITE BIBLE VERSES

The following verses have been taken from the King James and New International Version (NIV) bibles.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. (Ephesians 1:17)

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who (Jesus), being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing . . . (Philipians 2:5)

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

There is one BODY, and one SPIRIT, even as you are called in one HOPE of your calling; one LORD, one FAITH, one BAPTISM, one GOD and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Ephesians 4:4-6)

Knowledge and Wisdom

For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." (1 Corinthians 1:19)

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Cor. 2:13,14)

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? . . . But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise . . . Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." (1 Cor. 1:20-31)

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (1 John 2:27)

Perfection and Holiness

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (2 Cor. 7:1)

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (in all you do); because it is written, "Be ye holy; for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:15,16)

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are made manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God . . . (1 John 3:9,10)

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not . . . (1 John 5:18)

For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy . . . (Leviticus 11:44)

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

Power of God

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Cor. 2:4,5)

The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but of power. (1 Cor. 4:20)

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much assurance . . . (Thessalonians 1:5)

But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God . . . by the holy Ghost . . . by the word of truth, by the power of God . . . (2 Cor. 6:4,6,7)

Salvation

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we (first) believed. (Romans 13:11)

Jesus said, ". . . but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." (Mark 13:13)

Then said one unto him, "Lord, are there few that be saved?" And he (Jesus) said unto them, "Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able" . . . Then shall ye begin to say, "We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets." But he shall say, "I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity." (Luke 13:23-27)

Baptism (being born again)

Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and ye shall received the gift of the holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Cor. 5:17)

John the Baptist said I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose. He shall baptize you with the holy Ghost and with fire. (Luke 3:16)

Read in Acts 10 of Cornelius' baptism of the holy Ghost. No water is necessary to receive the Spirit!

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness (with our spirit), because the Spirit is truth. (1 John 5:6)

If we receive the witness of men (man telling others that they are right with God, such as "You are saved."), the witness of God (speaking in tongues) is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. (1 John 5:9)

In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." (John 3:3)

Speaking in Tongues

For anyone who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries by the Spirit. (1 Cor. 14:2)

In the law it is written, "With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak to this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me," saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serves not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. (1 Cor. 14:21,22)

And because you are sons (of God), God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying "Abba, Father." (Galatians 4:6)

The Spirit bears witness with our spirit (testimony of two witnessess is needed) that we are the children of God. (Romans 8:16)

Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised holy Spirit . . . (Ephesians 1:13, 14)

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water (natural birth) and the Spirit (second birth or born again). Flesh gives birth to flesh (natural birth), but the Spirit gives birth to spirit (born again). You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again'. The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with EVERYONE born of the Spirit." (John 3:5-8)

Jesus said, "When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me." (John 15:26) You must have the second witness. Anyone can claim to be born again.

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may call upon the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one consent. (Zephaniah 3:9)

For with stammering lips and another language will He speak to this people, to whom He said, "This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest", and "This is the refreshing", yet they would not hear. (Isaiah 28:11,12)

Likewise the Spirit helps with our infirmities. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
